'Between Play and Resistance' (displayed in the o 'Between Play and Resistance' (displayed in the old Tollinton as part of the NCA Triennale 2025) From a distance, the installation appears like a curtain patterned with the familiar black and white rhythm of a keffiyeh. As the viewer comes closer, the illusion dissolves, they discover that the pattern is formed by hundreds of small kites, each one connected to the next and suspended from the ceiling. . Kites are often linked with childhood, play, and a sense of innocence. To me, they also carry the idea of freedom: a fragile form that rises against the pull of gravity. The keffiyeh, in contrast, holds a long history as a symbol of resistance and the struggle for liberation. . By bringing these two elements together, I place innocence and resistance side by side. The delicate structure of the kites echoes the softness of the keffiyeh's repetitive pattern, while their collective presence turns play into a quiet act of defiance.
